Lot’s Going On

I asked my boss what he thought I should write about in this weeks “What’s New”. In which case he responded with “whole bunch going – not much gone.” Before I could ask what he meant by this he started to explain: “Mechanicals are in at South Village 18 (SV 18 is the site for two duplex units going up), trusses are there in Thistle Hill for 29 and 30. Siding is going on South Village 2a, 26 is going strong in Thistle Hill and we’ve getting pretty good to go with the plans for South Village 34.” What I gathered from all of that, is this: We have a lot going on, but there’s still a long ways to go before it’s done. It’s funny because you see a home get started – footing, foundation, framing, trusses, roofing, all of that, and then from the outside it seems like there is a big pause where not a lot is happening. We have that in a few of our houses right now, the thing is that a lot IS happening – it’s just on the inside. Working through electrical and plumbing and sheetrock and all of the other things. We do have a lot going on right now, and that is exciting. One of those is about to be “gone” though and that is Thistle Hill 31. The final walk-through with them happened this week, and they are about as excited as a family could be to move into their new home. Of course, the homes we build are never really “gone”, as we have a one year warranty on every home we build, and we’re always here after that if something comes up.

Also this week, a couple of homes that we built that have been closed on and have happy customers living there were entered into the Vermont Home Builders Association Better Homes Awards, as well as a renovation that we did. This is an exciting event that brings builders together to compare some of the great work that is happening around the state and have a friendly and fun competition to see who will win. With any luck in November I’ll be writing a web update featuring one of those homes!

For now though, we will continue to have a “whole bunch going – not much gone”.
